Chapter 3: The Rural Public Library as Leader in Community Broadband Services

Abstract


This chapter of
The Transforming Public Library Technology Infrastructure
proposes a leadership role for rural public libraries as a linchpin among broadband anchor institutions in the community. This chapter utilizes recent research to explore the need for new models of how the rural public library can take a leadership role in utilizing education and training to increase the impact of broadband on the community. In addition, the chapter offers one possible approach for how the public library can take a leadership stance in promoting community-based broadband planning.
